Bynry Inc\u2019s Smart360 platform will fully upgrade Samoa Water Authority\u2019s existing system and boost return on investment.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n Samoa is among the world\u2019s most climate-vulnerable nations, facing sea level rise, extreme weather and increasing pressure on food\/water systems. Sea level in the capital city of Apia has risen by 31 centimeters since 1990 \u2014 three times the global average.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Against the backdrop of climate change, Samoa Water Authority (SWA) has been under pressure to upgrade its digital infrastructure. The utility\u2019s ageing system has struggled to keep up with rising demand, customer expectations and environmental stress. In 2019 a measles outbreak exposed serious operational gaps. When the COVID-19 pandemic followed, it became clear that SWA needed a more agile and digital-first infrastructure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n SWA sought to embrace a cloud-oriented, mobile-based approach to their data, future-proofing their system and improving accessibility, flexibility, and resilience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In July 2024, SWA launched a Trial Reservoir-supported digital transformation trial, deploying Bynry Inc\u2019s Smart360. Smart360 is a Software as a Service (SaaS) platform providing simplified operations for small and mid-sized water utilities. The trial involved a close working relationship with the Asian Development Bank to align it to the ADB\u2019s digital transformation roadmap.<\/span><\/p>\n Trial goals included streamlining meter data management and billing and workforce operations. Alongside this, SWA wanted to reduce total cost of ownership and improve customer experience for Samoans.\u00a0 SWA also wanted to \u201cfuture proof\u201d its system to account for network growth and new technologies like smart metering.<\/span><\/p>\n The trial wrapped up in April 2025 with fantastic results. Smart360 has firmly progressed SWA\u2019s water environmental transition while increasing its digital resilience. From a climate perspective, the long, diesel-fuelled journeys required to capture data are now largely automated. Non-revenue water losses, previously abundant, can now be tracked and rectified within the system.
